Note: We saved approx. $75 per day by using a Dodge Grand Caravan with the stow-and-go seats stowed instead of a cargo van to deliver the carts. Plus, the Dodge Grand Caravan gave us the option of having a third passenger by leaving one of the second row seats up.

Check out the BRSD Techies hard at work to get everything set up for our students. Thanks Trevor and Ken!

Two things Toby & I learned while working with the staff at Bawlf School and their IT support:
  • The Dollar Store has great neoprene cases that fit iPads perfectly, and in the cart's storage slots too, for only $1.25

  • One way to organize iTunes for the efficient management of apps and avoid the worry of syncing apps to devices they were not purchased to be used on is to have 3 iTunes accounts, one for the teachers to purchase any teacher specific apps to support their work with the students in this 1-2-1 project, one for the class set of apps, and one for each student in the class that will require specialized apps, in addition to the class set of apps, to support their learning.

One thing Toby & I learned while working with the staff at Graminia School and their IT support:
  • When configuring an iPad for the Bretford cart that was previously set-up on a different iTunes account with apps loaded (like the ones loaned to teachers in the project for the summer) it will speed up the process to remove the apps. How to Delete Apps off an iPad Video

One thing Ross, Toby & I learned while working with the staff at Percy Baxter Middle School and their IT support:
  • Configuring an iPad for the Bretford cart (if it was previously set-up on a different iTunes account with apps loaded like the ones loaned to teachers in the project for the summer) is a much faster process if you first reset it to erase all content and settings. Percy Baxter Teacher Reflections on Delivery Day:
  • The day the Bretford cart arrived we were very excited get started. The first day we learned how to set-up an i-tunes account and sync the iPads for the purpose of adding Apps. We remember being frustrated with the new feel of the Mac book, especially scrolling down on the page, and having to click on the scroll pad. We felt very at ease with the support we received on the delivery day, and really felt that we could ask any questions that we had.

One thing Ross, Toby & I learned while working with the staff at Pioneer Middle School and their IT support:
  • If you choose to 'Enable Restrictions' on each individual iPad, DO NOT turn OFF 'Installing Apps'. If 'Installing Apps' is turned off the cart syncing process will not be successful.

Pioneer Teacher Reflections on Delivery Day:
  • Wow the iPads have finally arrived. The kids had gotten wind on the first day of school that we would be getting the iPads in the class and have been constantly asking for them. Unfortunately between the implementation meeting and the fire drill, all of the iPads did not get set up right away. It took a couple of days to finally bring the cart into the classroom, and now to begin the daunting task of deciding how to distribute and collect the iPads.
